Aug. 25, 2007

by Lindsey Gray Finally our marathon of a day has ended! Two matches in an eight-hour span can be a tough turnaround, but with our high focus and will to go out and win tonight, we made it happen. Getting to play against a team in their home opener always adds more excitement to the match, and tonight we could definitely feel it. From the first point we knew that we had the match because of our aggressive serving and ability to get an early jump on the ball in serve receive … from there it is always fun when things just seem to fall into place for everyone.

It’s almost 11 p.m. now and we are back in the hotel, showered up and waiting for our post-game meals to be delivered so we can devour them quickly and then head to sleep, resting up the bodies for another match tomorrow. We can go to bed happy tonight knowing that we have begun the season 2-0, but we all know that we are not finished yet. The match vs. Pepperdine is still ahead of us, beginning at 2 p.m. CT tomorrow. They may be big and tall, but our fast-tempo offense will be hard to keep up with.

For now though, everyone is excited about the idea of sleeping in tomorrow morning. For most of us, this is going to be the first time in a long while – since the start of preseason drills and school – that we won’t have to see the hour of 7 a.m. What a difference just an extra hour makes to us! So I guess I’ll say goodnight for now, and check back tomorrow to see if our sweet dreams of beating Pepperdine and taking home the tournament title come true!
