THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (11-9, 2-4 ACC) was defeated by the No. 15 Duke Blue Devils (13-5, 6-1 ACC) in a 6-1 decision on Sunday.
Despite losing the doubles point, two doubles pairs put up a great fight against Duke. No. 20 Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel were down in the beginning of the match but ended up in a tiebreak round with No. 71 Garrett Johns and Pedro Rodenas. The duo ultimately lost in a tight 7-6 [7-5] decision which granted the doubles point to Duke. Brandon McKinney and Elias Shokry’s match against Connor Krug and Teddy Truwit was 6-6 [5-5] before it went unfinished.
Tech’s lone win in singles play was an exciting upset by No. 34 Martin. Martin put up a dominating performance against Duke’s No. 17 Garrett Johns, winning the match 6-3, 6-2. With this victory, Martin is now 10-4 against nationally ranked opponents and 15-4 in dual match play.
