ATLANTA (March 5) – Georgia Tech sophomore Lindsay Wood was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week after leading the Yellow Jackets (9-6) to three wins at the Georgia State Invitational.
The Marietta, Ga., native earned the honor after recording a 5-for-9 performance at the plate for a .556 batting average and adding two home runs and seven RBI on the weekend. In the first game of the weekend, Wood led Tech’s offensive onslaught, as she recorded her third career home run, a grand slam, to give the Jackets a 12-2 win over Campbell.
In the day’s second game, Wood again played long ball, as she hit her second homer in as many games, to help the Yellow Jackets to a 10-7 win over Georgia State. Along with the two-run blast, she also had a key RBI single in Tech’s five-run fifth inning to claim the come-from-behind win.
The Player of the Week award was the first of Wood’s career at Georgia Tech. She and the rest of her Tech teammates will return to action on Tuesday for a home doubleheader with Eastern Michigan, beginning at 10 a.m.
