Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 10 Georgia

THE FLATS – Rounding out a three-match non-conference swing, Georgia Tech women’s tennis dropped a hard-fought match to No. 10 Georgia on Wednesday afternoon, 4-0. The loss moves the Yellow Jackets to 11-6 overall.

DOUBLES
In a tight doubles point, it all came down to the final court as the teams traded the first two matches. Georgia grabbed the early advantage, winning on court two when Dasha Vidmanova and Mell Reasco defeated Kylie Bilchev and Ava Hrastar, 6-4. But the Yellow Jackets quickly evened the field, winning on court one a few minutes later. Tech’s No. 9 doubles team of Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura raced out with a 4-1 lead over No. 12 Morgan Coppoc and Ania Hertel. The Jackets served out the win, 6-3, forcing all eyes to turn to court three.

Gia Cohen and Ruth Marsh faced Meg Kowalski and Guillermina Grant and stood on serve at 3-3 before the Jackets won the next two games for a 5-3 advantage. But the Bulldogs rallied back to win the next four games and clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 decision.

Georgia carried momentum over from doubles and clinched the match with the first three singles courts to finish. The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead when Hertel defeated Cohen on court six, 6-3, 6-1, and Vidmanova collected a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Hrastar on court three. Kowalski clinched the match from court five, defeating Sharabura, 6-4, 7-5.
