ATLANTA-Georgia Tech defeated tournament host Minnesota 6-1 in the final day of the Minnesota Court Classic in Minneapolis, Minn. The Yellow Jackets swept all three doubles matches and won 5-of-6 singles matches to claim their first win in dual matches on the season.
Tech swept the doubles matches, withstanding Minnesota comeback attempts at both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Georgia Tech’s Kelly Anderson and Sekita Grant dispatched the Gophers’ 26th-ranked duo of Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy, 8-5. At No. 2 doubles, Lyndsay Shosho and Maria Nieto broke a 4-4 tie and thwarted Lindsay Risebrough and Ida Malmberg, 8-6.
In singles play, Georgia Tech took five of six matches with the lone Minnesota victory coming at the No. 1 spot. Buergis picked up the win, dropping Shosho, 7-5, 6-3. The Yellow Jackets won the remainder of the singles matches in straight sets.
