Whitney Haller Named ACC Softball Player Of The Week

March 30, 2009

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech senior first baseman Whitney Haller has been named the ACC Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon. Haller batted .476 last week as the Yellow Jackets went 5-2, including a 2-1 mark against No. 19 Florida State.

This is the third straight week that a Georgia Tech player has been the ACC Player of the Week. Freshman Kelsi Weseman won last week, while sophomore Kristen Adkins was honored two weeks ago.

Haller was 10-for-21 (.476) at the plate with eight runs scored, one double, two home runs and seven RBI. She hit a grand slam in the first inning of Tech’s 8-3 win over the 19th-ranked Seminoles Saturday night and was 3-for-4 against FSU ace Terese Gober in the game. The Marietta, Ga., native then had a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning which sparked a three-run come-back and sent Sunday’s series finale against FSU into extra innings.

Haller is now second on the team and fourth in the ACC with a .413 batting average. She is tied for second in the league with eight home runs and first with 37 RBI.

The Yellow Jackets (26-9, 4-2 ACC) will travel to the Bay State for a three-game series at Boston College this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and then a single game on Sunday at Noon. Live audio and stats for all three games will be available free of charge at www.ramblinwreck.com.
