Senior setter Caron Blotch, tournament most valuable player, recorded 35 assists while directing an offense which hit .402 in the match as the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers defeated Georgia Tech in three games (30-12, 30-24, 30-27) to win the 2005 Georgia Tech Renaissance Invitational. With the win, the Lady Toppers improve to 8-1 on the season while the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-3.
The Lady Toppers’ win ends Georgia Tech’s 14 home match win streak in O’Keefe Gymnasium, which dated back to September 24, 2004.
The offense was the difference in the match as the Lady Toppers hit over .400 and held the Yellow Jackets to a .106 hitting percentage.
Georgia Tech was led by middle blocker Nikki Kaminskas, who registered a season-high 10 kills, along with Laura DeMichelis who also recorded 10 kills.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Saturday when they travel to Athens, Ga., to take on Michigan at 8 p.m. in the University of Georgia tournament.
