With a 14-2 record and three wins over nationally ranked teams, the Georgia Tech volleyball team is ranked No. 25 in the most recent USA Today/AVCA Coaches Poll.
“It is nice for us to earn national recognition from other coaches in Division I volleyball,” said head coach Bond Shymansky, who in his first year as head coach has guided the Jackets to their best start since 1996. “One of the things that we told our team at the beginning of the season was if we take care of what we need to do on our side of the court everyday in practice, then good things will happen and this is one of those things.”
The Jackets, who this season have defeated No. 19 Michigan State, No. 22 Louisville and No. 24 Kansas State, appear in the top for just the fourth time in the program’s history and the first time since the preseason poll in 2001. Tech’s highest ranking was in 1996 when the Jackets were ranked No. 16.
Georgia Tech, which has captured three tournament titles this season, begins its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule this weekend on the road against Maryland and Virginia.
