GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Georgia Tech volleyball team swept Louisiana (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) in the opening match of the Active Ankle Challenge hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. The Yellow Jackets improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Ragin’ Cajuns fall to an even 4-4.

Early in set one with the score tied 3-3, Louisiana went on a 5-2 run to increase their lead to 8-5 and force a Tech timeout. The Yellow Jackets regrouped during the short break and went on a 5-0 run thanks to blocking efforts by Felinski and Quinn Evans, and a pair of service aces by Mead. Tech would hold the lead through the remainder of the set to win 25-18.

Louisiana and Tech traded the lead throughout the beginning of the second set until Tech went on a five-point run, which led to the Yellow Jackets’ largest lead of the game, 19-13. The Ragin’ Cajuns rallied to tie it up, 19-19, behind a block by Kaylee Nemeth and Blair Claypoole, followed by a Nemeth kill and a pair of points by Claypoole.

Georgia Tech kept its composure and regained the lead on a Louisiana service error and kills by Mead and Annie Czarnecki. The Yellow Jackets put the game away on a kill by Mead, 25-22.

Tech had to play catch-up the first half of the decisive set. The Yellow Jackets closed the gap to one point and finally evened the score, 13-13, on a block by Felinski and Ashtaan Horton. An attacking error on White, put Tech on top, 14-13, and the Jackets held on to the lead for the rest of the match.

The Yellow Jackets continue action at the Active Ankle Challenge with a contest against Jacksonville at 10 a.m. and a match against No. 15 Florida at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Steven C. O’Connell center. Gametracker will be available for the match on www.RamblinWreck.com.
