Volleyball Falls To No. 9 Washington; Will Face Georgia Tonight At 7:00

ATHENS, Ga. – Kindra Carlson had a match-high 22 kills to lead the No. 9 Washington Volleyball team (7-0) to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-19) win over Georgia Tech (4-4) Saturday morning at the Bulldog Invitational. The Yellow Jackets will close out the tournament against Georgia later tonight at 7 p.m.

Junior Bailey Hunter led the Yellow Jackets with nine kills. Sophomore Monique Mead had eight kills and four digs while junior Asia Stawicka added six kills. Georgia Tech hit .052 for the match compared to Washington’s .376 clip. Carlson had her 22 kills on a .514 attack percentage for the Huskies.

Seniors Mary Ashley Tippins and Jordan McCullers had team-highs of 27 assists and 15 digs, respectively for the Yellow Jackets.

In the first set, Washington used a 9-3 run mid-way though to open up a 17-10 lead. The Yellow Jackets tried to battle back and got within four points a couple of times, but the Huskies closed the set on a 7-1 run to pull away and win 25-15. Hunter led the Jackets with four kills while Kindra Carlson had 10 for Washington.

Tech trailed just one point mid-way through the second set, 13-12, but the Huskies reeled off seven straight points and went on to close out the set on a 12-3 run to win by a 25-15 score and go up 2-0 for the match.

The Yellow Jackets battled Washington in the third set and led for much of the first half of it, but the Huskies pulled it out in the end 25-19 to sweep the match. After exchanging the first several points, Tech went up by two points only to see Washington keep coming back to tie it. The Huskies took the lead for good at 15-14 and pulled away at the end for the win.

The Yellow Jackets will conclude the Bulldog Invitational with a showdown against in-state rival Georgia tonight at 7 p.m. It will be broadcast on WREK, 91.1 FM in Atlanta and online at www.RamblinWreck.com.
