ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Volleyball team (14-7, 7-3 ACC) hit .404 en route to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-15) win over Boston College (8-15, 0-10) at O’Keefe Gym Friday night. It was the Yellow Jackets’ seventh straight win as they were led by 12 kills and .750 hitting from junior Bailey Hunter.
Hunter and sophomore Alexis Woodson did not have an attacking error all night as Woodson chipped in with nine kills on .692 hitting. Sophomore Monique Mead had 11 kills as she hit .450 and junior Asia Stawicka added eight kills and five total blocks while hitting .462. Freshman Jennifer Percy also added seven kills as Tech improved to 14-7 on the season.
Stawicka moved into ninth place on the all-time Georgia Tech block assist charts as her four tonight gives her 272 now in two-plus seasons. Senior Jordan McCullers, meanwhile, moved into ninth place on the all-time digs list. She had a team-high 12 tonight and now has 1,289 for her career. Senior Mary Ashley Tippins paced the offense with 43 assists and had seven digs, while sophomore Susan Carlson also recorded seven digs for Georgia Tech.
Behind an early 9-0 run, Georgia Tech cruised to a 25-15 win in the first set. The Eagles never got any closer than seven points after the 9-0 run gave Tech an 11-2 lead. The Yellow Jackets hit .538 in the set and were led by six kills from Mead. Woodson added four kills as Tech held BC to a .103 hitting percentage.
In the second set, every time the Yellow Jackets looked like they were going to pull away Boston College came right back. Georgia Tech tried to pull away as it held a 16-10 edge, but BC came right back to cut its deficit to just a point. The Yellow Jackets never relinquished the lead, however, and hung on to win 25-21. After Tech called timeout when the Eagles cut the lead to 22-21, the Yellow Jackets scored the final three points to put the Eagles away and take a 2-0 lead for the match. The Jackets hit .294 in the second set and were led by three kills apiece from Hunter, Woodson and Percy.
Boston College hung around in the third set as well but Tech closed out on a 9-3 run to pull away and win 25-15 completing the sweep. The Eagles had just cut the Tech lead to four points at 16-12, but after calling a timeout the Yellow Jackets pulled away. Hunter led Tech with eight kills in the final set as the Jackets hit .410 and held BC to .069.
