Updated Stadium Policy Information

Sept. 9, 2010

Georgia Tech has taken corrective action by implementing a number of changes to insure that gate entry issues encountered at Bobby Dodd Stadium last Saturday will be addressed and improved. Some fans encountered problems entering the stadium prior to Tech’s 41-10 victory over South Carolina State.

The following changes will be implemented beginning immediately:

• Gate personnel have been instructed to allow entry to the stadium in line with past practice. That is, regardless of the gate number listed on your ticket, you can enter the stadium at any gate. Fans are encouraged to do their best to enter the gate listed on their ticket, as it simply will assist with a smoother flow throughout the gate areas and inside the stadium.

• There will be additional signage posted in and around the stadium to help patrons identify gate numbers and find directions to the various gates around the stadium.

• The Georgia Tech Band’s performance on the Callaway Plaza steps will now begin 10 minutes earlier, at 40 minutes prior to kickoff. This will allow additional time to enter the stadium prior to kickoff after the band’s traditional pre-game show.

• Athletic administrators have met with stadium operations and security personnel and have stressed the importance of presenting a helpful, welcoming attitude that reflects positively on Georgia Tech.

• In addition to ushers and security personnel, there are two contact numbers fans may wish to keep handy should they experience any difficulties in the stadium. The Fan Assist Hotline is available at all times during game day at 678-429-1413. Fans can also text “JACKETS” (along with your issue and location) to 78247. Patrons are encouraged to take a moment to add these numbers to their mobile phone address book.

• Georgia Tech has also created a specific email account (gameops@gatech.edu) which will be monitored post game for feedback on the performance of the game day staff, police, parking and contracted security group, Contemporary Services Corporation.

These changes will improve the flow of fans into the stadium and resolve many of the problems experienced last weekend. Even with these corrections, some fans may still experience a delay in entering the stadium, specifically on the north end, which continues to be a popular entrance. However, the return to past practice regarding gate entry should expedite admission into Bobby Dodd Stadium.

As is the general practice at all large venues, bag screenings are a necessity and will continue to be performed at each gate throughout the season. Fans are urged to review the prohibited items list which can be found on page 11 of the 2010 Fan Guide. Access the guide at the following link: http://ramblinwreck.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/fan-guide.html. This list was created in concert with local authorities and best practices of collegiate athletic venues. Being familiar with this list is another way to help in keeping the lines flowing smoothly.

While these changes will have the most visible and organizational impact for Tech fans, there are many other logistical issues both inside and outside of the stadium that are being reviewed in order to improve the fan experience.

Our primary goal is to provide a safe and pleasant environment in which to watch the Yellow Jackets. The implementation of these changes should result in a dramatically improved game day experience at Bobby Dodd Stadium beginning with the next home game on September 25th when N.C. State visits.
