THE FLATS
– The Georgia Tech volleyball team (3-5) fell to Troy (4-5) by a score of 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 19-25), Saturday as part of the Georgia Tech Courtyard Classic at O’Keefe Gym.

Three Yellow Jackets had double-digit kills in Jennifer Percy (11), Ivona Kolak (11) and Chanell Clark-Bibbs (10). Freshman London Ackermann anchored the back row with 11 digs. The momentum of the match swayed back and forth as the contest featured 39 tied scores and 18 lead changes.

Set one was a battle throughout the beginning and it was only with the score knotted 11-11 that the Trojans began to pull away. Troy got behind the serving of Ali Dowdall and Courtney Cohen, along with key kills from Marija Zelenovic to pull ahead 21-14. Tech chipped away at the lead, and put together four points to pull within two, 24-22, but the Trojans held on for a 25-22 victory.

The second set was a back-and-forth battle with 17 tied scores and eight lead changes. Neither team led by more than two points throughout the set, and Georgia Tech had set-point twice before they were able to put the game away, 25-23. The Jackets hit .406 in the game and were led by Percy’s five kills.

The Trojans took the lead early in the third set and continued to widen the gap, 19-15. Georgia Tech wouldn’t be left behind and went to work for five-straight points to take the lead, 20-19. The score was knotted three times from that point and at 23-23, a Trojan kill gave them set-point and a Georgia Tech attacking error gave them the set.

The fourth set was much like the third game. The teams volleyed back and forth until the score was even 18-18. Troy strung together six points and captured the match with a 25-19 fourth-set victory.
