ATLANTA – Georgia Tech redshirt freshman receiver Demaryius Thomas, true freshman safety Morgan Burnett and true freshman kick-off returner Jonathan Dwyer were each named to the Sporting News ACC All-Freshman team announced today.
Burnett is a key component of Tech’s defense that ranks 12th in the nation in total defense and 17th in scoring defense as well as first in sacks and second in tackles for loss. He is tied for fifth on the team with 50 tackles (33 solo) and leads the team with three interceptions. Burnett also has 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack as well as a fumble recovery.
Dwyer was selected to the team for his kick-off returns but has been a key part of Tech’s backfield this season that ranks first in the ACC and 16th nationally in rushing offense. He has returned 13 kicks this year for 301 yards, an average of 23.2 yards per return. His longest return was 35 yards against Boston College. Dwyer has rushed 70 times this season for 401 yards, an average of 5.3 yards per carry. He has seven touchdowns and ripped off a career-high 138 yards against Samford that included a 65-yard rush.
Thomas has also enjoyed a stellar season and is the second-leading receiver on the Jackets this year. He has 31 catches for 489 yards, an average of 15.8 yards per grab. Thomas has hauled in a team-high three touchdowns including a season-long 56-yarder at Virginia.
