The Good Word

March 8, 2007

TO: Fans, Friends, and Supporters of Georgia Tech Athletics

FROM: Dan Radakovich, Georgia Tech Director of Athletics

March Madness is upon us! As we begin play in the ACC Tournament tonight, we feel confident that our play in the last month, and especially in the last week, has moved us off the bubble and into the NCAA Tournament. But it would be nice to erase any possible doubts with a few (or more!) wins in Tampa, and that is the approach that Coach Hewitt and his squad are taking.

Thanks to everyone who supported the team throughout the season – our great crowds in the Thrillerdome helped us to a school-record 16 homecourt wins this season.

Selection Sunday doesn’t end on Sunday, thanks to the success of our women’s team. The NCAA women’s bracket will actually be announced on Selection Monday. Congratulations to coach MaChelle Joseph and her squad as they put together one of the best seasons in Tech history, and thanks to all who supported our women’s team this season.

We look forward to watching both squads make this a March to remember.

NCAA BASKETBALL TICKETS

Please click here and review the procedures for requesting and purchasing tickets for the NCAA Tournament, for both men and women.

TRACK & FIELD

Good luck to our track and field athletes competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.: Ashlee Kidd (400 meters), Shantia Moss (60-meter hurdles), and Jerome Miller (high jump).

Congratulations, to Ashlee, who was named the ACC’s Most Valuable Performer for Indoor Track for the second straight year, and to triple jumper James Lemons, who has selected ACC Indoor Field MVP.

SOFTBALL OFF TO A GREAT START

The Tech softball team is off to a tremendous start under first-year head coach Sharon Perkins. The Jackets are 20-3 and ranked 19th while leading the ACC in virtually every offensive category. Senior Caitlin Lever has been named ACC Player of the Week each of the last two weeks. The team is on the road this weekend, but their next home game is next Wednesday at 4 p.m. against Houston. We host ACC preseason favorite NC State for a three-game series March 24-25.

BIG WINS FOR MEN’S TENNIS

Kenny Thorne’s men’s tennis team is coming off a pair of huge wins this week, knocking off 10th-ranked Florida State and then 20th-ranked Clemson in a span of four days.

FOOTBALL DEADLINES APPROACHING

By now, all football season ticket holders have received their TECH Fund invoices in the mail. I remind you of a couple of deadlines that are approaching. March 27 is the last day to register for the three-payment plan and also the deadline to submit your Transfer Request Form. Then April 13 is the deadline for the one-payment plan as well as the last day to submit the Relocation Request Form.

Our staff stands ready to assist you in any way they can, so please don’t hesitate to contact either the Ticket Office or the A-T Fund with questions.

Speaking of football, spring football practice is underway, with workouts scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium (please enter via Gate 9 on Techwood Drive).

As always, we welcome your feedback ( goodword@athletics.gatech.edu ). Please know that even if I’m not able to send a personal response to everyone, I do read each email, and I appreciate the support and passion of every Georgia Tech fan.
