Tech's Ayalon, Morgan Compete on Day One of NCAA Swimming Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – Georgia Tech senior Shilo Ayalon placed 35th in the prelims of the 500-yard freestyle, and freshman Sam Morgan finished 39th in the same event Thursday in the opening session of the 2003 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

The school record holder and ACC runner-up in the event, Ayalon clocked a time of 4:26.13, while Morgan swam 4:27.17. Georgia’s Robert Margalis was the top qualifier for Thursday night’s final with a time of 4:15.73.

The top eight individuals in each event advance to tonight’s finals, while the next eight will swim in the consolation final.

Ayalon will compete Friday in the 400 individual medley, while both Ayalon and Morgan, the first freshman to ever represent Tech at the NCAA Championships, are set to swim the 1650 free Saturday. Ayalon is seeded second in that event.

Prelim sessions are scheduled for 11 a.m. CT Friday and Saturday, followed by finals at 7 p.m. CT
