ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech swimming and diving squads will open the Atlantic Coast Conference schedule against Florida State Friday at 6 p.m. at Emory’s Woodruff P.E. Center. This marks the first competition of the season for the Yellow Jackets’ men’s squad, while the women are currently 2-1 on the season.
The Tech women opened the season last weekend, downing Georgia Southern and North Florida Saturday. Freshman Cara DeVinny led the Jackets by winning three individual events over the opening weekend. She owns the ACC’s second-fastest time in the 200-yard individual medley this season.
The men hit the water for the first time this season after posting one of the program’s most successful seasons a year ago. Tech finished third at the ACC Championships and 29th at the NCAA Championships in 2001. Both marks were program bests. The Yellow Jackets are led by the program’s first All-Americans, Shilo Ayalon and Tomonori Tsuji. Senior David Laitala also returns as a two-time All-ACC performer.
The Seminole men and women each enter the meet undefeated on the season. Both squads defeated Miami, Maryland, James Madison and William & Mary to open the 2001-02 campaign.
All Tech home meets are scheduled for Emory this season. The Georgia Tech Aquatic Center is under renovation
