ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s swimming and diving team will take its perfect 2-0 record in the young 2000-01 season on the road this weekend as it travels to face ACC foe Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. at 11 a.m. on October 28.
The Yellow Jackets have opened the year with impressive victories over James Madison (172-117) and Louisiana-Monroe (163-66). Saturday will be Tech’s first road dual meet of the year. The Seminoles also boast a 2-0 record this season with wins over Florida Atlantic and Miami (Fla.).
Tech will be looking for its first ACC dual meet win since a 149-82 win at Duke in 1999. The Seminoles hold the lead in the all-time series between the two schools by a 22-1 count.
Tech sophomore Shilo Ayalon (Kfar Hanassi, Israel) has been ben one of the Jackets top performers to date, as he set Georgia Tech Aquatic Center pool records in both the 500 freestyle (4:36.79) and the 1000 free (9:20.23) during Tech’s meet versus JMU. In the 1000-yard event, Ayalon shattered the pool record by over eight seconds. He also has the team’s top time in the 200 free, with a mark of 1:42.53.
Fellow second-year performer Josh Hersko (Marietta, Ga.) is also off to a strong start, as he is the squad’s top performer in the 100 free (47.51) and captured wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle in Tech’s win over Louisiana-Monroe. In that meet, Hersko anchored the Yellow Jackets’ 400 medley relay team, which set a new pool record of 3:27.87.
Following it’s meet at FSU, Tech will be back in action on November 4, when it travels to Davidson for a non-conference matchup with the Wildcats.
