ATLANTA (October 19) – The Georgia Tech men’s swimming and diving team will conclude its 2000-01 home schedule on Friday when it hosts the University of Louisiana-Monroe at 5 p.m. at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
The Yellow Jackets opened the 2000-01 season on October 13 with a 172-117 win over visiting James Madison at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, as three Tech swimmers each won two individual events.
Sophomore Shilo Ayalon led the Tech attack, as he won both the 1000 and 500 freestyle, setting new pool records in both events. In the 1000 free, Ayalon swam a time of 9:20.23, shattering the previous pool record by over eight seconds. In the 500, his time of 4:36.79 eclipsed the previous mark by just over a second.
Fellow second-year performer Josh Hersko captured the individual title in both the 100 free, with a time of 47.51 and the 200 free in a time of 1:43.82. Both swims were among the best regular-season performances of Hersko’s Tech career.
Following Friday’s meet with Louisiana-Monroe, Tech will hit the road to open it conference schedule with a dual meet against Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla., at 11 a.m.
