Andrew Clausen was named assistant director of athletic communications and public relations at Georgia Tech in September 2018, and is the primary contact for baseball, as well as the secondary contact for the football program.

He has previously served the as primary contact for men’s tennis, cross country/track and field and swimming and diving, as well as handled secondary duties for men’s basketball.

Clausen returned to The Flats after a brief stint as assistant director for athletic communications at Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Ga. At KSU, he aided in the public relations efforts for Kennesaw’s 18-sport department of athletics and handled the day-to-day communications duties for its nationally ranked FCS football program in addition to being the primary contact for women’s basketball and baseball. Along with interview and media requests for coaches and student-athletes, he also handled the statistical responsibilities and the production of game notes and record books.

Prior to Kennesaw State, Clausen worked in the sports information office at his alma mater, Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. As a student intern and then a postgraduate intern, he handled the publicity and communication efforts for baseball, men’s and women’s tennis, wrestling, men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s soccer.

With the Mountaineers, he aided in the promotion of right-handed pitcher Matt Brill to become a 12th round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft – becoming the first App State baseball player in nine years to be drafted in the top 12 rounds. He also helped promote Jane Cline to become Appalachian’s first soccer recipient of the Sun Belt’s Offensive Player of the Year award. In his final year at Appalachian, Clausen promoted the Mountaineers’ first wrestler in six years to become an All-American, and sixth all-time, in heavyweight standout Denzel Dejournette. A two-time Southern Conference Wrestler of the Year, Dejournette is regarded as one of the top wrestlers in program history.

In addition to his time in collegiate athletics, Clausen also served in the Charlotte Hornets communications office in 2015 and coordinated the media relations efforts for the 2017 15U USA Baseball World Champions.

Clausen graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications: journalism in May 2016. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the Georgia Sports Writers Association (GSWA) and is a former member of the North Carolina Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).
