Georgia Tech’s Win Today Gives The Yellow Jackets…

… a record of 6-0 to start the season for the first time since 1966 (the 1990 national championship team

tied North Carolina in Game 6) and a tie for the 8th-best start in Tech history

… bowl-eligibility for the 15th consecutive season

… a 3-0 record in the ACC and sole possession of first place in the Coastal Division (Tech is two full games ahead of second-place Duke)

Team Notes

… With the win today, Paul Johnson becomes just the fourth ACC coach to defeat all 11 league opponents at least once. He joins Bobby Bowden, Frank Beamer and Tom O’Brien.

… The 77-yard touchdown run by Maryland’s C.J. Brown was the longest rush by a Tech opponent since Sept. 14, 2002 when Clemson’s Derric Hamilton also ran for 77 yards; it was the longest run by a Tech opponent in Bobby Dodd Stadium since Sept. 21, 1985 when Virginia’s Barry Word ran for 79 yards.

… Georgia Tech played today without two starters on defense – LB Jeremiah Attaochu and LB Daniel Drummond – and two back-ups on defense – LB Brandon Watts and S Lance Richardson.

… Tech’s opponents have scored on their first possession just once this season (North Carolina touchdown).

… Tech has produced a touchdown or a first down on its first play of the game five times this season.

… Tech’s first possession this season has resulted in five touchdowns and one field goal.
