Softball Eliminated from Bama Bash Tournament

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Feb. 26) – Georgia Tech’s softball team dropped three games Saturday and was eliminated from the Bama Bash Tournament being held at the University of Alabama Softball Complex. The Yellow Jackets lost to No. 15 Depaul, 4-0, No. 3 Arizona, 12-0, and to Drake, 5-2 and are now 8-8 overall this year.

Tech opened play by falling to Depaul as the Blue Demons received RBI singles from catcher Tatum Allen, right fielder Shavaughne Desecki and second baseman Molly Sircher along with a another score on a wild pitch to plate four runs. The Jackets banged out eight hits with second baseman Ellen Styer and catcher Anne Knobbe each going 2-for-3. The Jackets left eight runners on base for the game.

Tech was over powered by the No. 3 Wildcats, as all-America pitcher Jenny Finch surrendered just two hits to Tech. She also hit a three-RBI home run in her game to aid her own cause. Styer and Knobbe each contributed hits in the contest for Tech.

The Jackets were eliminated from play by the Bulldogs in the last game of the day. Drake’s designated player Brooke Buchanan led off the game with a solo home run to centerfield as the Bulldogs struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Knobbe contributed an RBI with a sacrifice fly and junior Jennifer Biggers scored on a wild pitch for Tech. Tech stranded eight runners for the contest as centerfielder Lauren Schwartz went 2-for-4 to pace the Tech attack.

Styer paced Tech during the five-game tournament by going 7-for-13 at the plate, while Knobbe went 6-for-13 with three home runs and six RBI.

The Jackets return to action Thursday when they host arch-rival Georgia in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Glenn Field in Atlanta.
