First-year head coach Bond Shymansky earned his first career victory as the Georgia Tech volleyball team (1-0)cruised to a 3-0 win over Villanova (0-1) in the first round of the Doubletree/Brion’s Grille Patriot Invitational. The Yellow Jackets captured each game by the scores of 30-25, 30-18, and 30-15.
Georgia Tech was led by sophomore Lynnette Moster who tallied 17 kills while hitting an impressive .351, followed by junior Alexandra Preiss who tallied 12 kills and 10 blocks and hit .500. Moster also led the team defensively, recording eight digs in the match. Junior Kele Eveland notched 30 assists and four kills in the first two games while freshman Lindsey Laband notched twelve assists in game three. As a team, the Jackets hit an impressive .394 while holding Villanova to a .040 hitting percentage.
“I thought this was a good start in the tournament for us,” said Shymansky. “We gelled quickly as a team and found a good offensive rhythm in the match which helped us tremendously.”
The Yellow Jackets will take on Rice at 5 p.m. tonight in their second match of the Doubletree/Brion’s Grille Patriot Invitational.
