– GEORGIA TECH COACH Paul Hewitt
General thoughts on the game:
“We dug ourselves a hole by not rebounding. We did a much better job of that in the second half and we had some chances, but [NC State] did a better job of closing out than we did.”
“We were decent in the second half, but just gave up too many second chance shots.”
On Glen Rice:
“[Glen] played well and had 26 good minutes for us. He had it going in the second half so we went with him most of the way.”
NC STATE HEAD COACH SIDNEY LOWE
General thoughts on the game:
“We found a way to win. I thought our guys hung in there tough after Georgia Tech made their run and applied a little bit more pressure. I thought we did a decent job of handling that.
“We hit key free throws down the stretch, and Scott Wood had a big steal when they were taking the ball out of bounds. I thought our bench – Richard [Howell], Jordan [Vandenberg] and C.J. Williams and Javi [Gonzalez] were great for us and we needed them tonight.”
On inbounding the ball down the stretch:
“We knew they were going to trap the ball, so we would try to run something where when we inbound it, and Scott would be the guy that was breaking to get open. Ryan [Harrow] and Lorenzo [Brown] and C.J. Williams, all three of those guys, made some good passes to Scott. It’s tough when that pressure is coming, and they handled it well and got it into Scott’s hands and he knocked down the free throws.”
On shutting down Iman Shumpert:
“When he has the ball in his hands he is very difficult. I thought Lorenzo Brown and C.J. Williams did a great job of shutting him down, especially later in the game by limiting his touches.”
