Ozolins, Christenson Named Academic All-District

ATLANTA– – Georgia Tech tennis standout Laura Ozolins was named to the Verizon Academic All-District III At-Large first team for the third straight year, and swimmer Jennifer Christenson made the team for the first time.

Ozolins, a senior from Toronto, Canada, is a Biology major with a 3.97 grade point average. She was a key member of the Tech women’s tennis team that recently completed the most successful season in school history, earning the school’s third consecutive NCAA berth and achieving a program-best national ranking of No. 17.

The 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference champion at No. 6 singles, Ozolins has career records of 64-40 in singles and 41-23 in doubles. She ranks fifth in school history in career singles wins and fourth in singles winning percentage. She was awarded the 2002 Robert Cup as Georgia Tech’s top senior scholar-athlete, and she plans to attend medical school following graduation.

Christenson, a junior from Murfreesboro, Tenn., maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring Chemical Engineering and is the recipient of a President’s Scholarship, the most prestigious academic scholarship offered at Georgia Tech. She set three school records for Tech’s first-year women’s swimming program.

Both student-athletes are now eligible for the Verizon Academic All-America team, which will be announced June 11. The Verizon Academic All-District and All-America teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
