Lauren Sauer recorded 17 kills and hit .351 and Lynnette Moster notched her 1,000th career kill recording nine in the match as the No. 4 Georgia Tech volleyball team swept Clemson Tuesday night, 30-19, 30-28, 30-23. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 19-0, 7-0 ACC while the Tigers fall to 12-10, 2-5 ACC.
“I thought our team did a good job of executing tonight,” said head coach Bond Shymanksy. “Our passing was pretty strong throughout the match which allowed Kele to spread the offense amongst several hitters. It was good to see Laura Kuhn back in the mix and I thought that Lauren did a good job of mixing her shots up. It’s always tough to get a win in this gym, so we feel pretty good about our performance tonight.”
The Jackets used a balanced offense to win the match as the team recorded a .355 hitting percentage. In addition to Sauer and Moster, Alexandra Preiss had 12 kills followed by Laura Kuhn who had 9 and Jayme Gergen who had 7. Kele Eveland paced the offense with 51 assists in the match.
Defensively, Tech recorded 54 digs to Clemson’s 42 as Marisa Aston led the way with 15 digs followed by Keight Vincent who had 12. Gergen and Preiss both led the way with four block assists.
The Tigers were led by Ryane Beasley who had 14 kills followed by Leslie Finn who had 12.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Saturday when they face Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. at 6 p.m. in Tully Gym.
