No. 33 Jackets Prepare for Weekend Road Trip

THE FLATS – No. 33 Georgia Tech women’s tennis opens a five-match road swing this weekend, visiting No. 42 Notre Dame and No. 27 Virginia on Friday and Sunday, respectively. First serve at Notre Dame on Friday is slated for 3:30 p.m. with first serve in Charlottesville scheduled for noon on Sunday.

THE SCENE: Georgia Tech (8-8, 5-4 ACC) faces a pair of ACC opponents this weekend carrying a two-match win streak into the action. The Yellow Jackets picked up a pair of wins at home last weekend, defeating Virginia Tech and Boston College. Kenya Jones continues to pace Tech, owning a 23-9 overall singles record and a 7-2 conference mark.

Notre Dame, which ranks 42nd in the latest ITA national rankings, carries a 10-8 overall mark and 3-6 conference ledger into weekend action. The Fighting Irish have dropped the last three outings, most recently to Wake Forest. Notre Dame has picked up league wins over Clemson, Louisville and Pittsburgh.

Virginia, which dropped five spots in this week’s ITA national rankings to No. 27, most recently dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 3 Duke. The Cavaliers are 12-5 on the season and 5-4 in ACC play, sitting tied for sixth with Tech in the ACC standings. The loss at Duke snapped a two-match win streak by the Cavaliers, having edged No. 23 Michigan and Pittsburgh prior. Virginia hosts Old Dominion on Thursday before welcoming the Jackets on Sunday.

Georgia Tech leads the all-time series against Notre Dame, 11-5, having won the last six meetings dating back to 2014. Virginia holds the advantage against Tech in the all-time history, leading 24-16, despite the Jackets winning the last three.
