No. 24 Volleyball Defeats Clemson

Marisa Aston recorded a career high 23 digs and Alexandra Preiss tallied 17 kills and four block assists as the No. 24 Georgia Tech volleyball team held on to defeat Clemson in four games, 30-23, 30-27, 25-30, 30-26 Tuesday night. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 24-5, 10-3 Atlantic Coast Conference while the Tigers fall to 15-13, 6-7 ACC.

“We came out of the gates strong tonight and were led by a phenomenal performance from Alexandra Preiss,” said head coach Bond Shymansky. “Though we had good offensive production from several of our hitters, our defense is what led the way behind the inspired play of Marisa Aston. We still have improvements to make, but we continue to defend our home court advantage well and will use that as we prepare for the ACC tournament.”

The Yellow Jackets outhit the Tigers .246 to .239 and outdug their opponent 78 to 74. Each team posted 10 blocks in the match. Lynnette Moster tallied 18 kills and 16 digs while Laura Kuhn chipped in 13 kills (.484 pct.) and three block assists. Kele Eveland tallied 56 assists and 14 digs in the match while Jayme Gergen posted six blocks.

The Tigers were led by Leslie Finn who tied a career high with 23 kills followed by Lori Ashton who had 19 kills and four block assists. Stephanie Haskell led the team with 17 digs.

Georgia Tech returns to action Friday when they travel to take on Florida State in Tully Gym at 7 p.m.
