WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – No. 18 Georgia Tech volleyball (10-1) carried its hot streak into ACC play with another dominant sweep, this time over Wake Forest (9-3) to open conference competition on the road Friday night in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The sweep marks the third straight for the Yellow Jackets (10-1) and the sixth consecutive win on the season. Tech’s 10-1 record marks the best start for the Jackets since a 23-0 run to open the 2003 season in which the White and Gold won the ACC and advanced to the Elite Eight. The Jackets have now won 42 of their last 49 matches.

How it Happened

Tech opened the first set taking the opening four points, but Wake Forest evened things up with a four-point run of their own. The Jackets next took three straight points and five of the next six to jump back on top by four, 9-5, a lead they wouldn’t surrender for the rest of the set. From there, Georgia Tech inched ahead until a five-point run blew the set open with the Jackets on top, 20-11. Tech finished out the set with a double-digit first-set victory, 25-15.

The second set was tight early as neither side could separate by more than two points up to a 13-12 Tech lead. The Jackets took six of the next eight points to take control of the set, cruising on to a 25-21 second-set victory.

The White and Gold used an early, three-point run to maintain an initial lead in set three, progressing ahead 13-10. Wake Forest battled back in a last-ditch effort, using a pair of runs to jump in front 20-15. Despite the Demon Deacons seemingly taking control, the Yellow Jackets roared back with four bursts of three consecutive points, knotting the match at 24 before battling out a 28-26 extra points victory with their final three-point run for the match sweep.
