All-American candidate Lynnette Moster recorded 17 kills and 11 digs as the No. 17 Georgia Tech volleyball team won its 10th straight match defeating Florida A&M in three games, 30-26, 30-28, 30-23 Friday night. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 32-5 and tie the school record for wins in a season set in 1996. The Rattlerettes fall to 23-6.
“We came out of the gates strong tonight and were led by a good performance from Lynnette Moster,” said head coach Bond Shymansky. “Though we had good offensive production from several of our hitters, I thought that our blocking was particuarly strong tonight. This was a good match for us in terms of preparation for the upcoming NCAA Tournament and we did a number of things well tonight that will help us next weekend.”
The Yellow Jackets outhit the Rattlerettes .356 to .176 and outdug their opponent 45 to 37. The Jackets also team posted 12 blocks in the match and were led by Alexandra Preiss who had seven and Jayme Gergen who had five. Keight Vincent tallied nine digs followed by Marisa Aston and Kele Eveland who each had eight. Lauren Sauer chipped in 16 kills (.583 pct.) and two block assists. Kele Eveland tallied 40 assists and four block assists.
The Rattlerettes were led by Fiorella Aita Junek who recorded 16 kills followed by Adriana Kostqadinova who had 15 kills and three block assists.
The Yellow Jackets will now await the release of the 2002 NCAA Volleyball Championship bracket, which will be announced Sunday at 9 p.m. on ESPN News.
