The No. 13/14 Georgia Tech softball team begins its 2010 season this weekend at the USF Wilson-DeMarini Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. The Yellow Jackets return all but three starters from last year’s team which went to the Super Regionals and will play Long Island, No. 3/5 Florida, Canisius, Florida Gulf Coast and South Florida. Tech’s middle infield of redshirt senior second baseman Jen Yee and sophomore shortstop were each selected to the USA Softball Preseason Player of the Year Watch List.
“We are excited to finally get out on the field and see where we stand this weekend,” said head coach Sharon Perkins. “These are five excellent teams we will be going up against and we’re definitely going to have tough competition all weekend. [South Florida head coach] Ken [Eriksen] always does a great job running a tournament so we are looking forward to going down to Clearwater and opening the season.”
RamblinWreck.com will have complete coverage this weekend with live audio and stats as the Yellow Jackets’ quest for another ACC title begins on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
