CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Five Yellow Jackets earned straight-set singles wins, and Georgia Tech (5-1) swept all three doubles matches to earn a 7-0 victory over Illinois (2-5) Sunday at the Atkins Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Illinois.
Georgia Tech head coach Bryan Shelton mixed around the lineup Sunday, and all six singles players earned victories against the Fighting Illini. Fifty-second ranked Whitney McCray was the first singles player to finish, defeating Emily Wang at the No. 6 singles slot, 6-1, 6-0, to give the Jackets the 2-0 lead in the match.
Rookie Amanda McDowell breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 win against Alejandra Meza Cuadra at No. 5 singles before 64th-ranked Amanda Craddock clinched the match for Tech with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kristina Minor at the fourth singles slot.
Tarryn Rudman swept through the first set of her match at the third singles line, 6-0, but dropped the second, 2-6, before fighting back for a 6-1 win in the third to give Tech the 5-0 match lead. Kristi Miller then completed a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 singles slot and Kirsten Flower wrapped up the sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 win atop the lineup.
The Jackets will continue on to Evanston to face the sixth-ranked Northwestern Wildcats Monday at noon. Livestats will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
