Men's Swimmers Shoot for Qualifying Marks at Auburn Saturday

March 7, 2002

ATLANTA – Several members of the Georgia Tech men’s swimming and diving team, which recently placed second at the ACC Championships, will attempt to improve on their NCAA qualifying marks Saturday at Auburn University.

Slated to compete are senior David Laitala, junior James Salazar, senior Leo Salinas and junior Tomonori Tsuji. Laitala has met the provisional time in both the 100-yard butterfly and 200 IM. Salazar owns a “B” cut in the 200 back, while Tsuji does in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Salinas does in the 500 free.

Each will be attempting to improve on their qualifying marks in the hopes of joining junior All-American Shilo Ayalon at the 2002 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which are scheduled for March 28-30 at the University of Georgia. Ayalon owns an automatic qualifying mark in the 1650 free.
