Lewis Named Academic All-District

Feb. 20, 2004

Georgia Tech basketball standout Marvin Lewis added another academic honor as he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District III team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Lewis, one of five student-athletes selected, is now eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America basektball team.

The senior guard from Germantown, Md., is a Dean’s List student who maintains a 3.4 grade point average in Management and will graduate this semester. Earlier this month, he was awarded the Atlantic Coast Conference Weaver-James-Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship.

On the court, Lewis is the third-leading scorer for the 16th-ranked Yellow Jackets, averaging 11.4 points per game. He also ranks among the league leaders in three-point shooting.

Joining Lewis on the All-District III team, which includes all NCAA Division I schools in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia, are John Chappell of South Carolina, William Emerson of Mercer, Roberto Morentin of UCF and Adam Hess of William & Mary.

To be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America teams, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve who maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
