#TGW: Runs In The Family | Student-Athletes Thank Donors During #GTDonorWeek

The Alexander-Tharpe Fund and Georgia Tech Athletics are participating in #GivingTuesday on December 2. #GivingTuesday is a national effort designed to raise awareness for and encourage philanthropy on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and around the holiday season.

Currently in the midst of Campaign Georgia Tech, a $1.5 billion campus-wide philanthropic campaign set to end in December 2015, the Alexander-Tharpe Fund is tasked with raising $250 million of the overall campaign goal. The A-T Fund is the primary fundraising arm for GT Athletics, raising money for a variety of initiatives including annual scholarship support, operating expenses, endowments, and athletic facilities.

“There is tremendous positive momentum surrounding GT Athletics right now,” said Jim Hall, Associate Vice President for Development (Athletics). “Our student-athletes’ success is made possible in large part thanks to the generosity and loyalty of our donors, fans, and friends. We hope that donors will consider making an additional gift, their gift for the year, or become a first-time donor on Giving Tuesday as a sign of appreciation for how well our student-athletes represent Georgia Tech on a regular basis.”

#GivingTuesday follows A-T Fund’s successful #GTDonorWeek campaign, a special “Thank You” initiative coordinated by the GT Student-Athlete Advisory Board in mid-November. More than 300 GT student-athletes participated during #GTDonorWeek, making more than 3,300 phone calls and writing 2,100+ thank you notes to donors of the Alexander-Tharpe Fund.
