Jackets Wong and Morris named ACC Flight Champions

ATLANTA (Apr. 20) — Freshman Jaime Wong (Delray Beach, Fla.) of the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team was the best in her flight at No. 4 singles in the Atlantic Coast Conference and also combined with freshman Mysti Morris (Cartersville, Ga.) to win the No. 2 doubles flight. The ACC flight Champions were announced on Thursday night at the 2000 ACC Tennis Championships Banquet at the Raquet Club of the South in Norcross, Ga.

Wong dominated her ACC opponents, earning a 7-1 record in her flight. Her success in the conference included big wins over N.C. State’s Kristen Nicholls, 6-0,6-2, UNC’s Caroline Hill 6-1, 6-3, and Virginia’s Leslie Cook 6-4,6-0.

In addition, Wong teamed up with Morris for the deciding point in the upset of then #19 Florida State on April 8th. They defeated Kia Asberg and Marina Raic 8-1 to seal the 5-4 victory. The pair finished the ACC season with a 3-5 record in the No. 2 doubles spot.

Morris and Wong will lead the fourth-seeded Jackets into the ACC Championships against Florida State University at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at the Raquet Club of the South.
