Jackets Victorious on Final Day of Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis wrapped up the Michigan Invitational on Monday picking up three singles wins and a doubles victory. The Jackets concluded the tournament recording six singles wins and four doubles wins over the three-day tournament.

“This weekend was a great event. We competed against some really good players,” commented head coach Rodney Harmon. “We had some good results but have a lot of work to do before we play in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.”

On the final day of competition, Tech took on No. 24 Arizona State in singles play with freshmen Ida Jarlskog and Victoria Flores and sophomore Kenya Jones notching wins. Ranked No. 89 nationally, Jarlskog fought back after dropping the first set to Ilze Hattingh to pick up a three-set win, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. Fellow classmate, Flores was also victorious on Monday, defeating Savannah Slaysman in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Tech picked up its third singles win from Jones who also pocketed a three set battle, edging Tereza Kolarova, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Tech concluded doubles play taking on No. 8 Texas Tech in a pair of matches and took away one victory. Flores and Jones downed Sabrina Federici/Sarah Dvorak, 6-3.

Tech returns to the court to open the spring home slate hosting the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Jan. 27-28. The Jackets will welcome Denver, Dartmouth and South Florida to the Ken Byers Tennis Complex as the teams compete for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
