Jackets Hit the Road for Last Time in 2008

ATLANTA – The Yellow Jacket volleyball team will hit the road for the last time this season, traveling to Miami (21-5, 9-5 ACC) and Florida State (17-8, 9-6 ACC) before returning home for the final three matches of the 2008 regular season. Georgia Tech (18-7, 10-5 ACC) meets Miami at 7 p.m. Friday in Coral Gables before traveling to Tallahassee for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Seminoles Sunday.

The Yellow Jackets and Hurricanes are in a tie for fourth place in the ACC standings, just behind Duke, Clemson and North Carolina, who all stand atop the league with matching 11-4 conference records. Florida State is in a two-way tie for sixth place at 9-6 in 2008. The Seminoles will host Clemson Friday before facing Georgia Tech Sunday afternoon.

Earlier this season, the Yellow Jackets swept the Seminoles, 3-0, but lost to the Hurricanes by a 3-1 margin in Atlanta. Tech is 27-9 all-time against Florida State and holds a 5-3 lead in the series record vs. Miami.

Georgia Tech lead the league in assists (13.02) and kills (13.89) per set and stands among the top three in the ACC in hitting percentage (2nd, .261) and blocks (3rd, 2.52). Talisa Kellogg and Callie Miller are living up to their preseason All-ACC billing, as Kellogg leads the league with 4.05 kills per ACC match while Miller ranks second in blocks (1.38 per ACC set) and third with a .387 hitting percentage.

The Yellow Jackets will close out the season at home, beginning next weekend when they host Maryland and Boston College at O’Keefe Gym. The weekend will be filled with Tech events, as the football team hosts Miami Thursday (Nov. 20), the Yellow Jacket volleyball team hosts Boston College Friday (Nov. 21 – 7 p.m.) and Maryland Saturday (Nov. 22 – 7 p.m.), the women’s basketball team hosts Mississippi Valley State Saturday (2 p.m.), and the swimming and diving teams host the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday through Sunday.
