COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kristi Miller and Amanda McDowell both posted second round wins but couldn’t advance past the quarterfinals, falling on the second day of competition at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Tennis Championships in Columbus.
Miller notched a quick 6-4, 6-3 win over Northwestern’s 35th-ranked Samantha Murray in the round of 16 but fell to Clemson’s Ani Mijacika, 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, in the quarterfinals. Freshman Maya Johansson had seen her run fall in the round of 16 to Mijacika earlier in the day, 7-5, 2-6, 6-7.
McDowell downed Miami’s Laura Vallverdu, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (2) to begin the day, but couldn’t get past Taylor Ormond in the quarterfinals, falling to the Baylor standout, 4-6, 6-2, 0-6.
Miller and Whitney McCray also saw their run in the doubles bracket end with a 6-8 loss to TCU’s 14th-ranked duo of Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska.
