ATLANTA (Feb. 6) — Georgia Tech’s Mysti Morris downed Indiana’s Amanda Field at the No. 4 singles position to clinch the Yellow Jackets’ 6-3 victory against the Hoosiers Sunday at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
Morris downed Field, 6-4, 7-6 (6), as the Yellow Jackets (2-0) won five of the six singles matches to clinch the match before doubles play. Indiana (3-1) won two of the three matches in doubles.
“Overall I was very pleased with how we played today,” said Tech head coach Bryan Shelton. “I think we showed improvement over last week, and this is another step in the right direction.”
Tech opened up to a quick 3-0 lead after taking the first singles matches as Sabrina Pardo, Bobbi Guthrie and Jaime Wong won at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Indiana’s Jessica Levin won over Tech’s Charlotte Pernet at No. 5, and Tech’s Laura Ozolins won over Indiana’s Becky Wallihan at No. 6 before Morris clinched the match at No. 4.
In doubles, Indiana won at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Tech*s Wong and Morris teamed to win at No. 2, 8-4, over Levin and Wallihan.
