Jackets Cruise to 3-0 Win Over Temple Volleyball

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Callie Miller had nine kills and hit a career-high .818 to help Georgia Tech (5-3) cruise to a 3-0 (30-14, 30-16, 30-22) victory over Temple (3-9) in the Yellow Jackets’ opening match of the Michigan/Nike Invitational, which is being held at Cliff Keen Arena on the campus of the University of Michigan.

The Jackets hit .289 as a team in a match in which multiple players had career highs. Stephanie Robbins set new career highs with seven digs and a pair of service aces in her two games played against the Owls, while Brittany Roderick’s six kills were also a career high for the sophomore.

The Jackets had 40 digs and four total blocks to go along with their 44 kills against Temple, while the Owls managed just 24 kills while committing 24 attack errors in their first match of the tournament.

Tech hit .393 while the Owls were held to a minus-.129 hitting clip in the opening game as the Yellow Jackets took an easy 30-14 victory to begin the tournament. The Jackets were led by Lindsey Gray and Ulrike Stegemann, who each posted four kills, while Talisa Kellogg recorded six digs in the opening frame.

The Jackets’ defense continued to suffocate the Owls in the second game, as Temple was held to a minus-.031 hitting clip while Tech hit .353 in the frame. Miller and Roderick combined for 10 kills in game, while the Owls, as a team, managed only seven kills in the 30-16 loss.

Yue Liu, who finished with 10 kills to lead the Owls on the day, had a team-high four kills in the third game, but it wasn’t enough as Tech recorded the sweep with a comeback 30-22 victory. Temple jumped out to an early 8-3 lead, but Tech eventually tied the match at 21-21 and then held on for the final eight-point win.
