Jacket Volleyball Team Defeats Arkansas, Wins Third Straight

Maja Pachale recorded 34 kills as the Georgia Tech volleyball team defeated Arkansas in four games, 30-32, 30-27, 30-25, 30-25 on Sunday in front of 1,006 fans. The Yellow Jackets improve to 11-4 on the season while Arkansas falls to 10-6.

“I am really pleased with this win,” said head coach Shelton Collier. “With Arkansas just upsetting nationally ranked South Carolina on Friday, we considered this a very important match for us. I believe that we can really build on this and take more momentum into the rest of our ACC schedule.”

Pachale was virtually unstoppable on the afternoon, posting a .397 hitting percentage (34-9-63) and finishing just four kills shy of the school record. In addition, both Kyleen Bell and Amanda Hess tallied 14 kills and 10 digs in the match, while Alexandra Preiss notched 12 kills and six blocks. Kele Eveland led the offense, dishing out 64 assists and helping the Jackets hit .275 as a team.

For Arkansas, Eftila Tanellari recorded 17 kills and 20 digs, while Anna Velikanova notched 14 kills and 15 digs.

Georgia Tech will return to action on Friday when it travels to Winston Salem, NC, to face Wake Forest (10-7, 4-4) at 7 p.m.
