THE FLATS — Georgia Tech Athletics welcomed 47 of its newest student-athletes last week and immediately helped ease the transition to college with its annual JumpStart Jackets program. The newest Yellow Jackets have spent the week with fun-filled activities before beginning classes this Wednesday. Over the next five weeks, the student-athletes will participate in weekly JumpStart Jackets workshops and Leadership Academy sessions.
Below are some highlights of JumpStart Jackets this past week.
The student-athletes were greeted upon arrival with a welcome dinner in the Edge Dining Hall, giving the newest Yellow Jackets a
chance to interact and meet with staff members.
They were then welcomed to campus with an introduction from Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury to open orientation before
beginning a scavenger hunt around campus.
After orientation, the student-athletes were given clues that directed them to many notable places on campus such as Steam
Engine, Georgia Tech Whistle, Tech Tower, Albert Einstein Statute, Claugh Commons and the Kessler Campanile. The scavenger
hunt ended at Tech Rec where students were provided lunch and games.
To cap the week, the Yellow Jackets visited Bright Futures Atlanta – a year-round program offering academic instruction and camp
during the summer. The Jackets played competitive games of volleyball and dodgeball with the children, while learning about the program.
