Despite a career-high 18 kills from Talisa Kellogg and a career-high 33 digs from Jennifer Randall, the Georgia Tech volleyball team fell to Duke, 3-1 (25-30, 30-32, 26-30, 26-30) Saturday night snapping the Jackets’ 21-match Atlantic Coast Conference win streak, dating back to the 2003 season. With the defeat, the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-6, 1-1 ACC while the Blue Devils improve to 7-3, 1-1 ACC.
The loss also marks the first conference loss in O’Keefe Gym since the 2002 season.
After dropping the first game and being down a game point in game two, the Blue Devils fought back to tie the match at 1-1. In the final two games of the match, Duke recorded 32 kills to Tech’s 26 and had five more service aces.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Nikki Kaminskas, who had a career high 10 block assists and five kills while Ulrike Stegemann posted 13 kills followed by Laura DeMichelis who had 11 kills and two block assists. Lindsey Laband posted 50 assists in the match.
Defensively, the Jackets won the battle, recording 85 digs to Duke’s 74 and recording 16 blocks to the Blue Devil’s 13. In addition to Kaminskas, Talisa Kellogg had six blocks while Laband and Callie Miller each had five.
The Blue Devils were led by Carrie Demange who had 16 kills, 13 digs and five block assists.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday at 7 p.m. against Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla.
