Georgia Tech's 2013 ACC Football Opponents Announced

Jan. 11, 2013

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s eight ACC opponents for the 2013 football season include home games against two league newcomers and a trip to Clemson for the second straight year.

While the complete schedule and dates for all 14 ACC schools won’t be released until later, the conference office announced the eight opponents each school will play this fall.

Georgia Tech’s four home conference games include both Pittsburgh and Syracuse, who make their debut in the ACC in 2013. Pittsburgh joins Tech in the ACC’s Coastal Division. Syracuse will compete in the Atlantic Division. Georgia Tech and Florida State are the only ACC teams that will play both league newcomers this fall.

The Yellow Jackets’ other two home ACC games will be against North Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Tech will play ACC road games at Duke, Miami, Virginia and Clemson. The game at Clemson marks the second straight year the Yellow Jackets will play in Death Valley.

Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh will meet for the eighth time, but for the first time since 1976. The Panthers lead the all-time series, 5-2. The Yellow Jackets and Syracuse will meet for the first time since a 51-14 Tech victory in the 2004 Champs Sports Bowl. Tech leads the all-time series, 2-0, and the Orange will be making their first trip ever to Bobby Dodd Stadium.

This year’s ACC schedule is an entirely new scheduling model that is not based off the previous schedule. The current scheduling model means each team will play six teams within their division each year, plus one game against a primary crossover opponent and one rotating crossover opponent. Tech’s primary crossover is Clemson, while Syracuse is the rotating crossover in the 2013 season.
