Aug. 3, 2005

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have been selected to finish second for the upcoming 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference volleyball season, as determined by a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.

The Jackets finished with 124 points, receiving three first place votes, while Duke led the poll with 136 points and eight first place votes. Virginia was selected third with 108 points and one first place vote.

Georgia Tech, the defending ACC Regular Season Champion, finished first in the ACC regular season with a perfect 16-0 conference record, 27-7 overall. The Yellow Jackets return seven letterwinners and four starters including All-ACC performer Lindsey Laband and Freshman All-ACC selection Ulrike Stegemann, to a team which advanced to the region semifinals in the NCAA Tournament last year.

The Blue Devils return 10 players from a team that finished with a 20-10 record and a third place finish in the ACC in 2004.

Completing the preseason poll in order of finish is Miami (100), Florida State (99), North Carolina (96), Maryland (72), Clemson (69), Virginia Tech and Wake Forest (41), Boston College (33) and NC State (17).

Also announced today was the Volleyball Preseason All-ACC team, which features 18 players, including two defensive selections, from around the conference. Georgia Tech placed three players on the list in Lindsey Laband, Jennifer Randall and Ulrike Stegemann.
