THE FLATS — Pressley Harvin III led the #ProJackets last week in the National Football League as they enter Week 9 on Sunday.
Harvin continued to boom kicks in the Steelers’ 35-13 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday. Against the Eagles, he punted four times for 180 yards, including a 55-yarder and one inside the 20.
Adam Gotsis (Jaguars) and Darren Waller (Raiders) did not suit up for their respective clubs. Waller is still working back from a hamstring injury, while Gotsis remains on the team’s inactive list.
Offensive lineman Shaq Mason continues to grade out as one of the top guards in the NFL for Tampa Bay. He currently sits at No. 14 among NFL guards with a 71.1 rating. In pass blocking, he rates even better at No. 9 with a 76.1 grade. The Bucs were unable to overcome the Ravens on Thursday Night Football last week, falling 27-22 to Baltimore.
Kansas City Chiefs and kicker Harrison Butker had a bye in Week 8 and will return at home on this week against the Titans in Sunday Night Football.
The late Demaryius Thomas was honored in multiple ways this past week, including representing Georgia Tech in the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Honors Class. In addition to the recognition from his former college conference, Thomas was also posthumously voted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. Entering in its 2023 class, Thomas’ eight-plus years with the Broncos (2010-18) were sensational. En route to four Pro Bowl selections, he hauled in 665 receptions for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns and was a major factor in Denver’s Super Bowl 50 win, two AFC Championships and five AFC West titles.
Competitive Drive Initiative
In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
