ATHENS, Ga. – Freshman Ryan Crete clocked a season-best time of 15:37.59 in the men’s 1650-yard freestyle to finish fourth and lead Georgia Tech at the Georgia Swimming and Diving Invitational on Sunday. Junior Stephanie England finished second on the platform with a NCAA Zone qualifying mark of 254.90 to lead the Yellow Jackets at the GT Diving Invitational at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
Junior Elizabeth Stowe swam a NCAA ‘B’ standard of 16:48.57 in the women’s 1650 free to finish in eighth place for the Jackets. Junior Onur Uras was the only other finalist for the Jackets at the UGA Invite, posting a season-best time of 1:50.88 in the men’s 200 butterfly.
Freshman Agatha Kwasnik swam a lifetime-best time of 51.51 in the prelims of the women’s 100 free to finish in ninth place for Tech. She then broke the school record in the 100 free with a relay split time of 51.48 to help the Yellow Jackets post a season-best time of 3:29.57 in the 400 free relay in the final event of the evening.
Seniors Alex Williams and Ryan Bishop finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the men’s 200 breaststroke with times of 2:05.42 and 2:06.31.
The men’s team finished fifth with a final tally of 447.50, while No. 5 Southern California won the event with a score of 951. The Tech women’s squad finished sixth with a score of 138, while eighth-ranked Georgia captured the women’s side with a tally of 1,015.
Tech will train for the remaining part of the fall season and open up the winter season after the New Year on Jan. 13 and 14, hosting Florida Atlantic on Saturday and Emory and North Florida (women) on Sunday, in the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
