Today, we congratulate the Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis Team for winning the 2007 NCAA Women’s Tennis Tennis Championship;
Whereas, on May 22, 2007, with a 4-2 win over UCLA in Athens, Ga., the Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team captured its first NCAA title;
Whereas, Georgia Tech became the first school in Atlantic Coast Conference tennis history to capture the NCAA Women’s Tennis Team Championship;
Whereas, the national championship is the first NCAA team title in any sport for Georgia Tech;
Whereas, the Yellow Jackets also captured the ITA National Team Indoor Championship and third-consecutive ACC Title in 2007 while earning a record-breaking 29 wins on the season;
Whereas, team members Amanda Craddock, Kirsten Flower, Whitney McCray, Amanda McDowell, Kristi Miller, Tarryn Rudman, Alison Silverio and Christy Striplin have achieved through their hard work and team camaraderie the title of “Champions,”
Whereas, head coach and Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Coach of the Year Bryan Shelton, assistant coach Mariel Verban and volunteer assistant coach Robin Stephenson provided outstanding leadership for the team’s success;
Whereas, these young women and coaches brought pride and honor to their alma mater, fellow alumni, family, state and nation by exemplifying the highest level of sportsmanship, skill and accomplishment on the court in addition to exceptional performance in the classroom;
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the (Senate/House of Representatives) that the members of this body commend the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team on becoming the 2007 NCAA Champions and heartily congratulate the team, head coach Bryan Shelton and coaching staff on their outstanding accomplishments;
Be it further resolved that the Secretary of the (Senate/House) is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach Bryan Shelton.
