Four Football Student-Athletes Enroll for Spring Semester

Jan. 9, 2018

THE FLATS – Four football student-athletes – three true freshmen and a transfer from Ole Miss – have enrolled for Georgia Tech’s spring semester, which began on Tuesday.

Defensive lineman T.K. Chimedza, linebacker Quez Jackson and defensive back Charlie Thomas, who signed National Letters of Intent to attend Georgia Tech on Dec. 20, began classes at Tech on Tuesday after wrapping up their high school studies a semester early.

Additionally, Georgia Tech has added Ole Miss transfer Jack DeFoor to its roster. An offensive lineman, DeFoor spent two seasons at Ole Miss, redshirting as a true freshman in 2016 and appearing in four games as a redshirt freshman in 2017. In the classroom, he was a dean’s list student and was recognized as a National Football Foundation freshman scholar-athlete and member of SEC academic honor

A three-star prospect coming out of Calhoun H.S., DeFoor was ranked as the nation’s No. 28 offensive guard in the class of 2016. Over his final two prep seasons, he was a two-time first-team all-state honoree while helping lead Calhoun to a 28-1 overall record and back-to-back state championship game appearances, including winning the Georgia 3A title as a junior in 2015.

“Jack is a young man with good size, quickness and can do some of the things that we want to do on the offensive line,” Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson said. “He is also an excellent student and a local product that we recruited out of Calhoun who had an interest in coming back closer to home, so it’s a good fit for us. We’re excited to have him in our program.”

Per NCAA transfer regulations, DeFoor currently must sit out of game competition in 2018 and would be eligible to take the field as a redshirt junior in 2019. However, Georgia Tech is exploring the option of applying for a waiver from the NCAA that would make him eligible to participate in games immediately.

In addition to beginning classes at Georgia Tech on Tuesday, all four student-athletes will begin offseason football activities immediately and participate in spring practice, which opens in March.
